Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) Flooring
The fastest, most durable, and high-performing solution for environments that cannot stop: the methacrylate resin cures in a few hours and is the quickest method to install a resin floor.
The drying
Very fast, the methacrylic resin allows for foot traffic in very short times: it is therefore ideal for all those contexts where production downtime must be minimized.
1
The stability
The methacrylate also catalyzes at low temperatures and guarantees stability, continuity, and resistance.
2
Sanitization
Waterproof and sturdy, the methacrylate floor is slip-resistant and easily sanitizable: an ideal choice for all those contexts where performance is required immediately.

What is Metacrylate (MMA) and why is it in such high demand?
Methyl methacrylate resin, also known as MMA (methyl methacrylate), is a flooring system that stands out for its rapid drying and for its ability to become walkable in extremely short times. It is the ideal coating in all those contexts where downtime must be minimized and where activities cannot be interrupted for long.
Methyl acrylate is a reactive material that polymerizes (I would say catalyzes) quickly even at low temperatures, with the possible addition of an accelerator, ensuring a stable, continuous, and resistant result. The resulting floor is sturdy, waterproof, easily sanitized, and has excellent slip-resistant characteristics, depending on the requested finish. Some examples of our work in Dustproof Resin

Practical differences
Why choose an MMA flooring?
One of the main reasons why MMA is so appreciated is its ability to harden in no time. In many applications, the floor can be used just a few hours after installation. This allows for intervention even in active production contexts, where every minute of downtime represents a cost or inconvenience.
MMA, although extremely quick to apply, offers performance comparable – and in some cases superior – to that of other resin systems. The coating is highly resistant to wear, impacts, chemicals, and thermal variations. The surface is completely continuous and free of porosity, facilitating cleaning operations and ensuring a high level of hygiene.
Due to its ability to harden even in very cold environments, RPM Italy installs MMA in cold storage rooms, food areas, outdoor spaces, or climatic situations that would complicate the installation of other resins.
Where is methacrylate used?
Methyl methacrylate resin is used in a wide variety of sectors. It is particularly common in the food industry, where the need to ensure production continuity is high and where a floor resistant to frequent washing, aggressive detergents, and thermal shocks is required.
It is also widely used in industrial kitchens, slaughterhouses, cold storage rooms, transformation industries, and areas subjected to cyclical temperature variations. In the logistics and commercial sector, it is ideal for warehouses, passage areas, laboratories, and retail points, where a robust and non-slip floor represents an added value.
MMA is also widely used in outdoor contexts, driveways, and parking lots, thanks to its resistance to weather agents and its ability to harden quickly even in unfavorable climatic conditions.
How a floor in MMA is made by RMP Italia
The installation of methacrylate requires careful preparation of the substrate, generally through sanding, smoothing, or shot blasting. If the floor is newly poured concrete, the preparation will be lighter. RPM Italy then applies a specific primer and proceeds with the application of the MMA cycle, which hardens in very short times. The nature of the material allows for the rapid overlapping of subsequent layers, drastically reducing the overall time on site. Depending on the needs, it is possible to create smooth, non-slip, or highly resistant surfaces to chemical agents, adapting the system to different operational contexts.
Preliminary analysis of the environment
Every project starts with a technical inspection during which the existing support, environmental conditions, and usage methods of the floor are analyzed to identify the most suitable resin system and to prevent future issues.
1)

Preparation of the substrate
Targeted mechanical processing, such as sanding, grinding, and shot blasting, is carried out to prepare the concrete substrate, or other types, essential to ensure the adhesion of the resin cycle and the durability of the flooring.
2)

Execution of complementary works
Before or during the installation of the resin floor, complementary works are carried out, namely drainage supports, perimeter edges, and skirting boards. These elements help complete the environment and facilitate cleaning and sanitization.
3)
Application of the resin cycle
Based on the required performance, the installation of the resin floor is carried out following specific cycles. We calibrate thicknesses, finishes, and slip resistance to achieve a continuous, safe, and durable surface.
4)

Final inspection and commissioning
Once the hardening cycle is complete, and thus the catalysis of the product, the surface is ready to be used. At the end of the application, the floor is checked in every detail to ensure safety, continuity, and compliance with the project.
5)

Certifications and technical documentation
6)
At the end of the work, RPM Italia provides the client with the technical documentation related to the applied system, including the certifications required for each sector, to support the needs for monitoring and managing the flooring over time.
